How Long Do Yorkies Live

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) the lifespan of the Yorkie is between 11 and 15 years, with 13.5 years being the median age. The female Yorkies have a slightly longer lifespan than their male counterparts, surviving an additional 1.5 years.

Like most other small dogs, they seem to have a pretty good lifespan. With proper care and good living conditions, their longevity could increase to 17 or even 20 years in some cases.

Bonnie, a dog who lived in the United Kingdom, was the oldest living Yorkie, surviving up to 28 years of age, as per the 2012 records.

Some of the conditions that the Yorkies are prone to suffer from include heart failure, bone, and joint problems, hypoglycemia, liver shunt, tracheal collapse, and hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. These ailments, particularly blood sugar problems and heart diseases, could prove fatal if precautions aren’t taken in time.
